Koh Samui eSIM: online from the pier or the airport

Koh Samui has its own airport and a ferry link from the mainland. With the eSIM on, the ride from the terminal or the pier is on the map from the start.

  • Its own airport
  • Ferries from Donsak
  • Songthaews from the airport

The short answer

A Koh Samui eSIM is installed at home before you fly and switched on when you land, with data roaming on for the line. Samui International Airport sits at Bo Phut, ferries from Donsak dock at Lipa Noi, and the songthaew bus that serves the island starts at the airport.

Where the signal holds

  • 4G and 5G

    Thailand's three networks

AIS keeps 5G pages for consumers, True describes a 5G and 4G network, and NT sells services on its 5G network.

  • Not measured

    Crossings and dive sites

We have not measured signal on the crossings between the islands or at the dive sites. Download your ferry times and a map before you set out.

  • Data roaming on

    Your eSIM

The eSIM runs on a Thai network and shows that network's name in your phone's settings. Turn data roaming on for the eSIM line.

Practical notes

  1. Getting thereSamui International Airport sits at Bo Phut; its arrival zone has hotel counters, car rental and limousine, taxi and transfer services. On the water, Raja Ferry sails between Donsak pier and Lipa Noi pier on Samui, at 210 baht for a passenger, and Seatran Ferry runs the Donsak crossing too.
  2. Getting aroundThe Samui Local Public Bus, a songthaew service, runs from the airport to destinations around the island, and the airport also lists limousine, taxi and transfer services at its terminal.
  3. PayingThe currency is the Thai baht (THB), divided into 100 satang; the airport's arrival zone has a Government Savings Bank exchange counter, and the Bank of Thailand publishes the rates it uses.
  4. When to goThe embassy profile gives Thailand's seasons as summer from March to May, the rainy season from June to October and winter from November to February, with the coolest months falling in December and January.

Before you go (Koh Samui)

Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and keep the line switched off until you land. Download offline maps and your ferry times while you still have Wi-Fi, in case the crossing or a dive site has no signal. On arrival, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line only.
