Phuket airport SIM card or eSIM (HKT): land online
The orange bus to Phuket Town and the Smart Bus to the beaches pick up at the domestic terminal. With the eSIM on, the ride south and the first map are already working.
- HKT
- Airport bus to Phuket Town
- Smart Bus to the beaches
- Vans to Patong, Kata and Karon

The short answer
A Thailand eSIM is installed at home before you fly and switched on when you land, with data roaming on for the line. At Phuket (HKT) the airport bus runs to Phuket Town, the Smart Bus runs down the west-coast beaches to Rawai, and an express bus goes to Patong Beach.

Where the signal holds
- The bus stop
From the domestic terminal
The airport bus and the Smart Bus pick up at the domestic terminal by entrance 3; the Smart Bus fare is a flat 100 baht.
- 4G and 5G
Thailand's three networks
AIS keeps 5G pages for consumers, True describes a 5G and 4G network, and NT sells services on its 5G network.
- Data roaming on
Your eSIM
The eSIM runs on a Thai network and shows that network's name in your phone's settings. Turn data roaming on for the eSIM line.
Practical notes
- Getting into townThe orange 8411 airport bus runs between the airport and Phuket Town, with tickets bought on the bus or online; the airport lists town-bound departures from 08:15 to 20:15 and airport-bound ones from 09:15 to 21:15, hourly. Meter and electric taxis, limousines and Grab also serve the terminal.
- Buses to the beachesThe Smart Bus runs from the domestic terminal to Cherng Talay, Surin Beach, Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai for a flat 100 baht. The airport bus express runs to Patong Beach, from 08:00 to 20:00 at the airport and 06:00 to 18:30 back, and public vans serve Patong, Kata and Karon.
- PayingThe currency is the Thai baht (THB), divided into 100 satang, and the Bank of Thailand publishes the exchange rates it uses.
- When to goThe embassy profile gives Thailand's seasons as summer from March to May, the rainy season from June to October and winter from November to February, with temperatures highest in March and April and lowest in December and January.
Arrival, step by step (Phuket airport)
Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi before you fly, and keep the line switched off. After landing, turn off airplane mode, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line only. Nothing needs collecting at a counter: the line is already in the phone, and the buses and taxis are steps from the doors. If it does not connect, restart the phone once, then work through the checks in the help pages one by one.

Can I get a Phuket airport SIM card on arrival?
A SIM card is bought in person, so it means a stop after landing. The eSIM is installed at home before the flight and switched on when you land, so nothing waits at the airport.
How do I get from Phuket airport to Patong Beach?
The Smart Bus calls at Patong on its way down the coast for a flat 100 baht, and the airport bus express runs between the airport and Patong Beach, with airport departures from 08:00 to 20:00 and the return from 06:00 to 18:30.
